What I will be doing this weekend besides football...I write this article with the joy of working for a great company that let me off of work at 1pm today! (Standing ovation to my CEO, thank you.) Folks, the summer is ending and I am actually excited. After the Olympics ending, I see my depleted Atlanta Braves in 4th place in the weak NL East, so I'm pretty much done with baseball this year. However...I've got 2 teams to be super excited about. #1. My hometown Oklahoma Sooners, and #2. My under-exposed Jacksonville Jaguars. Its a big year for those two, and for tons of teams this year as there are at least 15 teams in college football that have a legitimate shot at the BCS Title, in the NFL there's probably about 5-6 at the most. With all that said, the weekend schedule is looking pretty juicy, lets dig in and find out the key matchups...
SMU vs. Rice, Friday @ 7pm - I know you're thinking huh? Why would I watch such a ridiculous game? Not so fast my friend...(LEE CORSO!!!) Rice boasts probably the best wide receiver you've never heard of in Jarrett Dillard. At 5'11", 175 lbs., all I know is that dude is a beast on NCAA '09, and Dillard ranks eighth on the NCAA career list in touchdown receptions (40). He's also only 11 TD's away from becoming the all-time leader so check out #81 before he goes to the league.
Alabama vs. Clemson, Saturday @ 7:30pm - The best runningback duo in college football touches down in Atlanta (James Davis, CJ Spiller) vs. Saban-ball and the Crimson Tide. Keep your eye on 6'5" wideout Aaron Kelley as Alabama will have a hard time matching up with him
all night. Hey players, don't party too hard after the game, evidently the Black Gay Pride weekend is going on in downtown ATL this weekend as well. I'm just saying, be careful...Missouri vs. Illinois, Saturday @ 8:30pm - Chase vs. Juice at The 2008 State Farm Arch Rivalry (sounds like a WWF pay-per-view match) Its gonna be a good test for the Mizzou defense as Juice Williams and Arrelious "Regis" Benn provide all types of matchup problems for anyone (ask THE Ohio State) plus the "Showdown in the Show Me State" will feature one of the best players on Missouri's defense in William Moore. The safety has tremendous ball-hawking skills and their front 7 simply gets after it. Should be good.
Tennessee vs. UCLA, Monday @ 8pm
- UCLA has the privilege to have lost both of its QB's in the offseason, so they are down to #3 QB JUCO transfer Kevin Craft. #18 ranked Tennessee on the other hand, also has a new QB but much more experienced in Jonathan Crompton, and Arian Foster is a nice back who is poised to have a breakout year for the Vols. Tennessee has underachieved the last 3-4 years and the SEC is setup for them to maybe make a run. UCLA also have #16 BYU on their schedule next week so they need to put a win on the board or be faced with an 0-2 start early on. Oh, and its in the Rose Bowl so it should be fun.
That's it, nothing more until Tuesday. Hopefully you got a full dose of Obama on Thursday night, let it carry you thru the weekend, and Godspeed.
-Ed.

I'm watching SMU and The June Jones Show, as we speak. There's gonna be some high school football mixed in too, homie. It's a great time to be a football fan.
really Ed
You don't know how excited I was for college football to start. Thursday I went to my school's game. NDSU romped Austin Peay! But anyways, the first Saturday was great, my Gators won and there were some excellent games.
LSU and USC were very impressive.
YOu better hope they out Shawne Merriman on some serious medication that's not FDA approved yet, cause that's the only way the Jags are going to make it happen this year..sorry.
