A conversation between me and Phil last night...
Ed: Man, they are ONLY down 16 points. They've got a shot.
Phil: I know, Michigan State's just gotta make some shots and play D.
Ed: I'm saying, if they can get it to under 10 with 10 minutes to go they can do it.
Phil: Bruh, you know it's bad when the crowd gets excited when you're only down 16...
And there it is. What a waste of my eloquent words, research, and utter blasphemy that I spewed on this site. I feel like my mental capacity was stretched for the greater good of mankind, only to see it get pissed down the drain like an afterthought.
That was the most non-competitive game I've ever seen. UNC destroyed Michigan State like when little kids step on ants.
However, for some reason, I feel cheated. I kinda feel like UNC got the championship handed to them and these teams laid down in front of them because of the "North Carolina" that's on their chest. Maybe they didn't, but look at how the teams played against them. They couldn't make any long range shots at all against UNC, you can say it was defense, to a degree it was, but if you watched the game there were so many open looks that were squandered that it was uncanny.
The simple fact that LSU gave UNC the best game is amazing. The fact that Oklahoma should've given UNC a tougher game was negated because the guards couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The fact that UNC didn't have to go thru Pitt, Louisville, or UConn upsets me, because I thought those 3 teams had a greater opportunity to matchup against UNC, yet they simply were not mentally strong enough and got beat by grittier, hungrier teams in Villanova and Michigan State.
But more than anything else, UNC was supremely more talented than Michigan State. From how I look at it, AT LEAST 6 players on UNC's team RIGHT NOW will go to NBA. Count 'em: Lawson, Ellington, Danny Green, Thompson, Psycho-T, and Ed Davis. Who knows if anyone else on that bench has a chance, maybe Marcus Ginyard, Larry Drew, who knows. Michigan State's got one guarantee, Kalin Lucas. Suton might be playing overseas, and Raymar Morgan is just iffy at this point.
I will say this, the UNC team was loaded and they are up there with the all-time great UNC teams, but how great are they? Technically, they have UNC's all-time leading scorer in Hansbrough, maybe (oh boy) the best PG to ever come out of UNC in Lawson, and two other guys in Green and Ellington who will definitely be solid players in the league. Plus, who knows what you'll get from Deon Thompson and Ed Davis, they are going to be a problem next year. Jeez-us.
Oh, and the One Shining Moment was kinda weak to me this year. Michigan State and Villanova were the only teams who brought some drama into the tournament, then they let us down royally.
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? AM I TRIPPING? WILL AVERAGEBRO EVER TAKE DOWN THAT SILLY HEADER ON HIS SITE? HOW GOOD IS THIS UNC TEAM?

7 Responses to "What A Waste of 3 Hours - UNC is #1"lmao.. U couldn't have said it any better Ed.. Like I said last night, I felt like I was watching a Varsity team just fine tune themselves against the JV Squad.. It just wasn't right.. I almost want start a petition to see if the NCAA will let UConn play em just for fun.. Cause we definitely got cheated out of 3 hours last night.. No doubt about that.. It still baffles me how teams shot what, 15% from 3 against UNC? And the crazy thing is, UNC wasn't even closing out on shots! (sigh).. O well, maybe next year, I'm over this wasteful game and ready for Baseball season..

I was utterly dissapointed!!! The NCAA championiship game should never be such a boring, mismatched occasion. It was worse than watching a #1 seed play a #16 seed during day one of the tournament. I stopped watching at halftime. I can't believe I was actually looking forward to this game...
I actually fell asleep last night watching the second half of the game. It was pretty disappointing. Then again, UNC was supposed to blast everyone this year, so I don't know why I was expecting anything different last night. Maybe I'll look at it differently later, but right now, it just seemed like the game was a bore.
This is no way, shape, or form remotely compares to last year's game. Everything was over except for the game.
I agree, UNC didn't have the hardest path to the title. But bear in mind they were the 3rd #1 seed. Theoretically, Louisville and Pitt had easier matchups. They just lost. Who's to say they too wouldn't have gotten rolled by Psycho-T and Co???
I actually thought Pitt was the most complete team in the tourney going in. I even predicted so on my site. Nobody could have forseen UNC suddenly discovering how to play defense, which has been a constant problem the past 4 years. I've watched every Tarheel game this season, and this surprised even me.
The Heels have a MONSTER recruiting class coming in next year, so all 6 of the guys you mentioned can bounce and they'll still have a shot at winning the ACC, which isn't as good a conference as it used to be.
Either way, this was a great night for Tarheel fans.
And BTW, I will keep that banner up as long as I damn well please. Given how bad my "other team" has been this year, I deserve it.
Man, Ed, I enjoyed it all but this was a VERY, VERY disappointing tournament. The only few teams that had a chance at UNC were knocked off by MSU, who the Heels dismantled Monday night.
great blog once again!
a
Bro;
1st things first; THANXXX for the pic.
2ndly, I wholeheartedly agree, the SPARTANS just laid down and gave UNC the title. And, I agree that they were intimidated by the legend of the TAR HEELS; and probably by the big stage.
