Wow, great article from a historical perspective. Each school's backround described is pretty accurate. All the class "warfare" undertones are very real and the taunting chants are to be heard at every single Elder/X matchup, no matter what sport. Things are a bit different these days. After the insulting cheers go back and forth... often these kids end up at the same parties at the end of the night (A few words, or fists may be exchanged). Or they are neighbors. Now that is probably the *real* driving force of this rivalry, not really the class warfare. That is really more perception than reality these days. Great article, one of the best that I have read related to this game.

Yessir, there's nothing like a good-fashioned rivalry, with old-school ties to boot. I'm definitely interested to see how this one turns out. Perfect setting for a great night of high school football.

The Elder - St. X rivalry is a classic cultural battle for certain. But one thing that's great about sports is that it's such an equalizer. It doesn't matter how much money you have or how big your house is or how fancy your school is.

All that matters is, are you ready to play hard, play well and win the battle?
