An eight team playoff would be better. A sixteen team would be even more fair.

However, I'm talking about getting away from fantasy and talking about something that could actually have a chance of happening. The college presidents and bowl commissioners are in collusion to keep the current system. A sixteen team playoff would require four extra games for the two finalists. The college presidents aren't going to let that happen.

Also, the bowls are concerned about their games being watered down. They want alumni to come and fill the hotel rooms and spend money. In an 8 team playoff, you're asking fans to travel up to three times. Not many can afford that.

All I'm saying is that instead of seeding the top two teams BEFORE the bowl games, why not do it after? You wouldn't even have to seed the top four teams as I previously suggested. Just play the bowl games in the traditional manner, then pick the top two teams for one extra game after that.

I know, I know, it's not that great and teams will be left out. But it's better than what we have now. On this issue, change will have to come in increments, not one big fell swoop.

Hopefully, by moving in the right direction, we'll eventually get where we need to be. (I know Brother Cleaver would not be happy with that statement but it's the best that I can do) :).

JAG

The 8-team plan is the most feasible, but since th...

The 8-team plan is the most feasible, but since there are more than eight deserving teams, I'd like to see 16. Cincinnati Bearcats. I rest my case.

What if Missouri pulls an upset over... oops, never mind. I forgot who I was talking to for a second. If you want automatic bids, you would have to go to a sixteen team playoff and do away with conference championship games (Yeah, ok. That will happen when the sun rises in the west.)

Other than that, I agree with your 8 team plan. However, it's a pipe dream. I proposed the four team plan because it would have a better chance since it requires very little tinkering.

Yes, deserving teams would be left out in a four team format. But at least you would have two more eligible and a true championship game that would require a win instead of a poll to get access.

JAG

@Antone - Quit using the northeast as an excuse an...

@Antone - Quit using the northeast as an excuse and be rational. The Championship Bowl already takes place after the other ones anyway.

Of course, this is still not the best way.
