He was always being stuffed in the back field. Putting his team in 2nd and 12, I'm sure that help his team win. That's the running back every team wants to have.

Emmitt would of had more yards per game if they didn't put him on the bench in the 4th quarter to perserve him for another day. That's right 15 years.

Compare Emmitt's and Sander's 1st 10 years in the league. What they accomblished and who let in getting stuffed behind the line of scrimage.

You will see simular stats, but Emmitt also has 3 super bowl rings.

If Sander's play a couple of more years we don't know if he would of held up and/or slowed down. You're listing current players that haven't done anything yet. Like Portis. What the hell has he done.

Sanders led each season with the most stuffs. Which always put his team in 2nd and long. Ya he'd bust some amazing moves and escapes but you look at how many per a carry, not good. Those teams he was on had a good passing game, so he wasn't the only threat. Look at his receiveing core and their numbers in the 90's. Plus he left the game early, sucks for his fans. If you look at all the accomplishments Emmitt had in regular season, playoffs, and super bowls. He might not have the moves, but you look at the magnitude of some of his big games. Last game of the 2003 season against the Giants, epic classic. People will argue but look at his team. In his 15 years, 4 of those were on great teams, but 8 years were on losing teams. So, that can't be an arguement. He also gave his fan more years of service. Thanks Emmitt. Dickerson should be number 5. Heres my top 5. 1 Brown 2 Smith 3 Payton, 4 Sanders 5 Dickserson.

One thing more you fail to realize is Emmitt was out of most of the games by mid 4th quarter. His team was ahead in the 4th for many games during the 4 years he was on a great team. Everyone knows rushing yards are easier to get in the 4th when def. is more tired.

4 Rushing Titles

Jim Brown was as big as some of the lineman in his day...look it up....half of these guys havent even finished their careers yet....whos to say their last couple of years dont hurt their stats like Emmit...His prime years he average 4.5 yds per carry.... their passing game was great but Troy aikmen never threw for very high yards...look it up....i just did....and if u wanna talk about "yeah his line was great" then do that for every player who had a good team... Montana had bums? Young had bums? Rice? Barry had a good line...stop lying....but he didnt have a good offense...he's definately a legend... But ur calculations are irrelivent... U can make calculations for many different reasons... Emmit Smith has done what no other back has...period... u telln me no one could have ran behind the line they had in Denver? That's what is happening here. I agree with some of the stats used, but that is only part of the picture. The last time I checked, the objective of the game is to score touchdowns. So touchdowns per game should definitely be part of the formula. Why isn't it?? And few players were better at scoring touchdowns than Emmit Smith.

Also, it says, "Bonus points will be given for longevity, and records held." Emmit Smith played for 15 seasons and holds many records. So where are his bonus points?? Instead he is being punished for having stuck around. It would be interesting to see how the numbers change if you eliminate Smith's last 3 or 4 seasons, and especially his seasons in Arizona (he probably should have retired before he did). Why not do the same exercise for each player's 10 best seasons? Yes, the numbers definitely change.

I'm not going to say he is the all time best, but any list that does not include Emmit Smith on it, is probably manipulating numbers to keep him off. That definitely seems to be the case here.
<link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' And he most certainly did not have to deal with 8 men in the box on a regular basis.
